Setting up Blown Alcohol Engines“ Enderle
INSTALLATION IN ENDERLE BLOWN ALCOHOL INJECTOR
PLEASE READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE INSTALLING YOUR FUEL SYSTEM. If your injector was shipped directly from Alkydigger, it should be set up for your application. A set of bypass jets is furnished usually 6 to 8. The larger the pill the leaner the engine will become, the smaller the pill the richer the engine will become. The butterflies and metering valve are set before shipment. The metering valve is set using our leak tester. The leak percentage discussed by Alkydigger will be specific to our Total Seal leakdown tester- caution should be used to make certain your leakdown tester is not designed for engine cylinders.
GENERAL INSTALLATION
When installing the injector on the blower, tighten the bolts evenly to prevent distortion. A gasket or silicone seal must be used between the injector and supercharger.
NITRO TYPE METERING VALVE “K” Valve
The idle check valve should be installed where the housing marked “RET”. The upper check valve is the high pressure pump relief and should also have a return line. The fuel line from the pump should be connected to the fitting marked “IN”. The line to the port nozzles should be connected to the fitting marked “PORT”.
Square METHANOL TYPE METERING VALVE
The idle check valve should be installed where the block is marked “OUT”. It should be #5 lbs part # 6001-5. Connect the return line to this check valve. The fuel line from the pump should be connected to the fitting marked “IN”. The fitting in the rear corner of the metering valve should be connected to the top nozzle distribution block. The Inlet must be a #8 or #10. Systems utilizing port nozzles will have an outlet fitting installed in the bottom of the metering valve.
The Spool # for Blown Alcohol is #17. Do not use a #12 or #32
IDLE CONTROL
The idle mixture is controlled by the turnbuckle on the side of the injector. To richen the idle, rotate the turnbuckle towards the rear of the injector, (shortening the linkage leans the mixture, lengthening richens the mixture). This adjustment is for idle and throttle response only and has no effect on full throttle. The idle speed is controlled by the butterfly shaft stops each end of the butterfly shaft. Butterflies should be set to between .009” and .011” Leak down % approx 68% for most engines, or 70% for very large engines with high boost.
MAIN BYPASS JET
Each fuel injector is furnished with a set of bypass pills. This bypass controls the fuel mixture at full throttle and has little or no effect on the idle. The bypass pill is located under 9/16 hex plug on the metering valve. Use a smaller bypass to richen the fuel mixture, and a larger bypass to lean it. When installing a bypass, make sure that it is seated at the bottom of the threads.
HIGH SPEED BYPASS SYSTEM
Certain applications require the use of a hi-speed leanout. This consists of a bypass jet controlled by a high pressure check valve which leans the fuel mixture at high rpm. The check valve pressure is adjusted with shims to tailor the fuel curve to the engines requirements. We use a pill in the high speed to quickly control how much fuel is retained or given back to the tank- This keeps you from having to make too many pressure changes of the valve. The check valve opens when the fuel pressure is able to overcome the spring tension. The bypass jet controls the volume of fuel returned. Adding shims will make the check valve open at higher rpm. Removing shims will cause the check valve to open at a lower rpm. The hi-speed should be thought of as a fine tuning device. The main bypass jet is the primary control of the overall fuel mixture.
GENERAL INFORMATION
A # 12 inlet line should be used with a -1 size fuel pump. All 110- 990-1100-1200- or SG2-Gear pumps series pump require at least a #12 line but prefer a #16 or #20 inlet line.
For best results the fuel pump should not be higher than the fuel level in the tank. Also, do not use a fuel tank mounted in the rear of the vehicle. The fuel tank must be in front of the engine. If your tank is in the rear of the vehicle, you need to purchase a Surge Tank from Alkydigger.
Use a # 8 line from the pump to the metering valve. All return lines are #6. The fuel tank vent should be ½” or larger.
MAINTENANCE
The fuel system should be drained between races. It is important to lubricate the fuel pump with LPS-3, WD-40, light oil or some other type of lubricant. Remove the inlet line from the metering valve and lubricate the metering piston to prevent stickiness and drying out.
WARNING
You must use a 3-way fuel shutoff with a return to the fuel tank. A 2-way style shutoff will damage the fuel pump.
